Rob's Biography

Rob is a graduate of Excelsior University and the State University of New York at Cobleskill and has earned an Associates degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Science (Cobleskill) and a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in writing from Excelsior University. Streeter is currently an employee of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, where he works in the Division of Water. Rob is also an outdoor columnist with the Albany Times Union newspaper, and is a frequent contributor to several magazines.

Rob is an avid archer and spends his spare time chasing whitetails and other species with his longbow. He started shooting archery at a young age, and continued in the sport throughout his life. He participated in archery competitions as a young man, and won the New York State Field Archers indoor and outdoor championships in his division, and won a bronze medal in the National Field Archery Championships. He has been fortunate enough to hunt for turkey, deer, bear, and caribou with the bow. He’s made several trips to Alaska, where he hunted for caribou and black bear.

Rob is a life long fly fisherman, getting his start in the sport at his Uncle Richie’s camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir on his 7th birthday when he received his first fly rod. He has fished from Florida to Alaska for many different species. Rob is an avid trout angler, preferring waters in New York’s Adirondack Mountains. Rob has extensive experience fishing for salmon and steelhead on the Lake Ontario tributary streams where he fishes with Jim Kelso, a good friend for many years and an excellent fly fisherman who taught Rob the techniques unique to this type of fishing. Rob also spends plenty of time fishing for bass, pike and panfish in areas near his home in Tribes Hill, New York. Saltwater angling has also been part of his angling history, including bonefish and snook fishing in Florida. He is a skilled fly tyer, and has developed fly patterns for bass and panfish, and other species.
